In less than two weeks after it was launched, the federal anti-narcotics police elite Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (STING) busted two drug syndicates with the arrest of 11 people and recovery of RM3 million worth of drugs last week.
The drugs, namely heroin, esctasy pills and syabu, in both liquid and crystal forms, were seized from two makeshift drug laboratories run by the syndicates.
An Iranian woman and a local woman were among those nabbed.
Federal police narcotics crimes investigations department Commissioner Datuk Noor Rashid Ibrahim said in press conference at Bukit Aman today that on Thursday police raided a house in Taman Maluri, Kepong at about 1.15am where a suspect was held over possession of heroin.
He said the suspect led police to a house in Batu Caves where three more men and a drug laboratory was uncovered. He said more than 3.5 kilogrammes of heroin was recovered from the bust.
In a second operation on a second syndicate, Noor Rashid said police carried out three raid simultaneously on three houses in Cyberjaya and Jalan Ipoh on Saturday at 3.30am where a woman and five men were held with more than 23 kilogrammes of syabu and 1,100 ecstasy pills recovered.
He said a drug laboratory that the syndicate operated was also crippled in a fourth raid by Sting on a house on Jalan Ampang five hours later.
He said the suspects, aged between 22 and 42, are under remand for investigations.
"Our elite team Sting has succeeded in crippling two syndicates in about a week after it was launched on Jan 30. This was also possible because of public cooperation and tip-offs." Noor Rashid said.
